The research group “Radiation Physics and Environment” (FRYMA), was created in 1995 belonging to the 3rd Research ∞ Andalusian Programa (PAI-1995). Our Research Lines are involved in area of the Environmental Physics, being the general lines related to Environmental radioactivity (measuring and applications) and the Air Photochemical Pollution.
Main specific research lines are:
- Measuring and study of radionuclides in both environmental and industrial matrixes by gamma spectrometry with semiconductor detectors, alpha-particle spectrometry (ionic implanted detectors), ICP-MS (”Induced Coupled Plasma - Mass Spectrometry), Liquid Scintillation Counting and Low Background - Gas Proportional Detectors.
- Studies on the environmental radioactive impact produced by Non-Nuclear Industries (NORM and TE-NORM).
- Measurement, levels, distribution and behaviour of the Radon in the environment.
- Application of atmospheric radioactive aerosols in the behaviour of low atmosphere.
- Dating (210Pb, 137Cs, 230Th/232Th, etc.) of recent sedimentary systems by radiometric methods.
- Study of the behaviour of superficial ozone in the Atmospheric Boundary Layer and its precursor (NOx and VOCs).
- Environmental Meteorology.
- Application of meteorological models in Andalusia region.
- Use and applications of natural radionuclides (mainly, U-series disequilibrium) in the study of aquifers.
- Radiological characterization of NORM and TE-NORM materials in public uses.
- Valuation of industrial wastes for their use in commercial applications.
